Two or more notes sounded simultaneously. Intervals may be articulated either as harmonic or melodic. Chords articulated as separated notes are called arpeggios, when all the notes are played together and heard together they are called “Harmonic” because they create a harmonic event. The “Harmonic” element in music is often referred to as the vertical because when written the notes are on top of each other vertically and sounded simultaneously. Melody is often referred to as being horizontal. Harmony often supports melody in close relationship.
