A style of music rooted in the blues that became the sound of American music through the two war eras. Defined by its sophisticated use of harmony and counterpoint and rhythm while infused with a African sensibility that propelled Dixie to the swing era and the swing era to Bop and Bop to Cool and beyond. To this day it still influences musical artists of every genre and is still used as the foundation for music colleges all over North America.
