The Mixolydian mode is a major mode with a minor 7th degree. The dominant 7 chord is constructed from this mode in tertian harmony. Mixolydian is often used in the Blues and Jazz to improvise over the 7 chord sound. The strongest harmonic characteristics of this mode are the bVII major and the II minor. The bVII is its strong melodic characteristic.
